One Mentor. One Student. Unlimited Opportunities. Become a Savannah Scholars Mentor!
Mentor Expectations
Serve as a trusted, experienced confidant and coach as the student navigates their college path.
Encourage, advise, cheer, and listen as the Scholar encounters new experiences and challenges.
Assist during the critical college application phase as our staff works one-on-one with Scholars applying to at least 10 schools. Discuss the Scholar’s prospective list, check in on progress, and offer to proofread.
Attend workshops or college visits to show moral support or refresh your college knowledge skills.
What Mentors Do
Savannah Scholars mentors are a critical element of our program, providing valuable, first-hand college knowledge and moral support throughout a Scholar’s sophomore through senior years of high school. Informal conversations about college visits, grades, overcoming academic obstacles, and applying to various colleges can make a world of difference to a student.
Time Commitment
Three-year commitment. Formal mentor/Scholar relationships begin during a Scholar's sophomore year. Mentor/mentee pairs may choose to continue their relationship beyond this time.
Attend special events, including the program Orientation and the Graduation Celebration.
Execute two “quality contacts” per month. Contact may include phone calls, a lengthy email, or in-person meetups. Consistent connections help strengthen the relationship and help the Scholar to gain confidence.
Mentor Selection & Matching Timeline
Mentor applications are accepted year-round.
Mentors are matched with sophomore Scholars in late summer.
Mentor-Scholar-Parent introductions take place at a Meet Your Mentor mixer in October.
